FAQ

EAN-13, explained.

Should I enter 12 or 13 digits for EAN-13?

Enter 12 digits to calculate the final check digit automatically, or enter all 13 digits to validate an existing EAN-13 number.

What does the last EAN-13 digit do?

The last digit is a checksum calculated from the first 12 digits. If a complete number has an incorrect check digit, the tool flags it and disables export until you correct it.

Why does EAN-13 start with a black apple?

The black apple and example number 5901234123457 match the EAN-13 card on our homepage. Replace the example with your own number and choose any of the 43 silhouettes.

Does DesiBarcode provide official EAN-13 numbers?

No. This tool creates artwork from the number you supply. It does not register products or allocate official barcode identifiers.

How should I prepare EAN-13 artwork for print?

Export the editable SVG, preserve the lower scan area and clear space around the bars, and test the final printed label on the material and at the size you plan to use.
